Online Diabetes Prevention Program on BodySite
Caring for diabetes patients just got easier. BodySite is proud to launch its digital Diabetes Prevention Program! Using BodySite’s platform, doctors and coaches can educate, monitor and care for diabetes patients in a whole new way.
Providers can now prescribe a powerful and digital diabetes prevention program, using BodySite. Read on to learn more about the Diabetes Prevention Program, what you can expect from the DPP template on BodySite, and the evidence behind a digital diabetes program.
What is The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)?
DPP is an acronym for Diabetes Prevention Program. The Diabetes Prevention Program was originally introduced by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and is now a widely accepted and clinically tested/approved protocol for those who are looking to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.
The DPP is a yearlong lifestyle change program designed to help patients achieve moderate weight loss through eating well and being active in order to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. The CDC requires that Diabetes Prevention Programs cover 16 modules in the first six months and 6 modules in the second 6 months of the program (22 modules total). Our DPP is 26 modules total and is just under one-year long.
Patient Goals During Diabetes Prevention Program
By the end of their first six months, the goal is for patients/clients to:
- Lose at least 5 to 7 percent of your starting weight
- Get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week, at a moderate pace or more
By the end of the second six months, the goal is for patients/clients to:
- Keep off the weight lost
- Keep working towards their goal weight, if they haven’t reached it
- Lose more weight if they wish
- Keep getting at least 150 minutes of activity each week
Features of BodySite’s Diabetes Prevention Program
The DPP will provide your clients/patients with the needed information, guidance, and tasks to help them easily transition to a healthier lifestyle.
This program is highly educational/module-based with specific tasks/goals for each module, based on the CDC guidelines. Daily tasks include tracking food, activity, weight, and blood sugar. Weekly tasks/journal prompts are tied to the modules.
CDC Certified Professionals Approve BodySite’s Diabetes Prevention Program
The DPP leaves it up to the qualified healthcare practitioner to decide which diet (if any) to use with the DPP. US News highlighted the best diabetes diets of 2023 based on a panel of experts (article: https://health.usnews.com/best-diet/best-diabetes-diets).
BodySite’s provider network has determined the most popular diabetes-friendly programs to include the Mediterranean diet for Diabetes, Paleo Diet, Keto Diet, and Plant-Based Diet. In other words, you can use the DPP as-is, or pair it with any of our blood-sugar friendly programs based on what you think is best for your patients/clients.
BodySite’s DPP has been reviewed and approved by CDC certified DPP Lifestyle Coaches, John Mwesigwa and Lori Koors. John Mwesigwa said this about BodySite’s DPP: “Your team is brilliant and talented in creating such beautiful and well-thought-out programs. Personally, this program is a game changer since I am interested in providing the DPP program via online and virtual platforms. All the companies that provide virtual CDC-DPP programs don’t provide such in-depth programs as BodySite. The design is clear, clean, attractive, and easy to read.”
Evidence for Digital Diabetes Prevention Program
A study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of “the implementation of a digitally adapted DPP [to have] the potential to prevent prediabetes on a national and global scale by using technology and behavior change science.” [1]
The study was able to conclude that the digitally adapted DPP studied was effective at “preventing type 2 diabetes through a significant reduction in body weight and an increase of physical activity. A prospective, controlled clinical study is warranted to validate these findings.” [1]
While more studies need to be conducted, providing patients with more tools and lifestyle education is an important step toward improving diabetic patients’ quality of care and life. That’s why BodySite has developed its own DPP Program.
