Does BodySite integrate with Fitbit? This question may be important to those who have patients that utilize Fitbit’s wearable activity tracking devices.

Good news for those who have patients that regularly track their activity using a Fitbit device — BodySite is integrated with Fitbit! One of the most popular fitness tracking devices can easily be synced with your patients’ BodySite accounts.

What is Fitbit?

A Fitbit is simply an activity tracker that is worn comfortably on the patient’s wrist just like a watch and tracks their day-to-day activity such as exercise, food, heart rate, and more. They have several different models of their product with different features, and the data collected is available on the web or their mobile app.

Their overall mission is to design their products and experiences in a way that fits seamlessly into the lives of Fitbit users while empowering and inspiring them to live a healthier, more active life.

How Does the Integration Work?

BodySite is a remote patient care and monitoring platform that allows providers to track everything that their patients are doing in real time including their nutritional information, body metrics, and activity data.

Patients are prescribed medication, hormones, and supplements, and are often told to lose weight, eat right, and exercise, but are rarely given a complete roadmap on how to put it all together. BodySite gives professionals tools that allow them to do exactly that with the ability to easily communicate with patients and track their progress.

The Fitbit integration allows patients to give BodySite access to their data which will then be displayed inside of the HIPAA-compliant remote patient care dashboard for both you and your patients to see. Patients can choose the data they wish to be accessed; they can choose between activity/exercise, sleep, heart rate, their profile, their weight, or all or some of the options.

Once the patient has given access, their profile and patient record will automatically display the data collected by their Fitbit, allowing you to monitor their progress. This happens in real time and all throughout the night (if patients wear their Fitbit to bed), so patients will no longer have to manually enter their data, unless they choose to for certain metrics.

To integrate Fitbit into their account, patients can log into their BodySite account on a computer and go to their account settings. From there, they will go to the My Connected Apps page.

Once they’ve gotten to the My Connected Apps page, they’ll need to find Fitbit on the page and select “Authorize Fitbit Access”. This will take them to the Fitbit sign in page, where they’ll be prompted to enter their credentials.

They will then have to choose which data they want to allow BodySite to access. This is completely up to them and can be changed later by deauthorizing and then reauthorizing with different selections later on if they change their mind about a certain metric.

Patients can also completely stop sharing their Fitbit data if they wish to at some point by deauthorizing.

How Does Fitbit Integrate with BodySite’s Plans?

It’s simple — all patients need to do is wear their Fitbit and all of their data will be stored in their Fitbit account. The integration into BodySite allows the patient’s biometric data to easily sync into their BodySite account for you and your care team to view as needed.

BodySite’s platform provides guidance and clinical interventions leveraging evidence-based content programs powered by a rules engine and a real-time patient feedback loop. There are over 60 care plans that can be customized and assigned to patients including diet, exercise, and patient education plans, or you can create your own plans using BodySite’s content management system. The protocols cover a wide variety of medical issues that keep the patient engaged in their health all while saving the provider time.

The care plans can have instructions to log a patient’s biometric data such as weight, blood pressure, or blood sugar. The platform’s rule-based alert system allows providers to be notified when their patients aren’t tracking a metric or if they’ve tracked something out of range. The integration with Fitbit makes it even easier to see a patient’s progress in real time without them needing to manually track the needed information.

BodySite also has a Virtual Clinic inside of every account at no extra cost. Providers have access to their clinic in their account dashboard where they can speak with patients, enroll patients in care protocols, and securely transfer messages and documents through our HIPAA compliant messaging engine. Communication has never been easier.

The integration with Fitbit will be especially useful for patients that are assigned to a certain plan (or plans). For example, if you have a patient assigned to the 30 Days of Sleep Hygiene Plan, you can instruct them to wear their Fitbit to bed for easy access to their sleep score, which is based on their heart rate, the time they spend awake or restless, and their sleep stages. This will allow you to seamlessly track their progress throughout their plan, and your patient won’t have to remember to manually enter their metrics each day.

It will be just that easy for any plan where your patient has to track their metrics. Whether it be activity, weight, resting heart rate, etc., you’ll be able to easily monitor their progress every step of the way.

Why Should You Encourage Patients to Use Connected Health Devices?

The use of connected devices by your patients can seem a bit intimidating because of the amount of data being generated, but with the right remote patient monitoring hub you’ll be able to easily see, sort, and manage your patients’ biometric data all in one place.

Fortunately, your expertise along with the BodySite platform will allow you to look at the progress your patients have made with their health goals and use the data to decide the care they may need (e.g. a wellness plan).

There’s a great amount of evolved technology you now have in your grasp that can tell patients what they are doing right or wrong with their health and wellness. With some expertise, guidance, and patient education, patients can have all the help they need towards better health outcomes.

An integrated guidance and monitoring platform such as BodySite gives you, as the provider, the opportunity to take this free flow of information and turn it into an actionable and fully comprehensive care plan for your patients.
