DrFirst Identity Proofing - What to Expect

    • Before you can ePrescribe (especially for controlled substances), DrFirst needs to confirm your identity and set up your security credentials. The process is quick and only takes about 10–20 minutes.

    •
    • 1. Look for Your Invitation
    •      – You’ll get an email from DrFirst (or from within your EHR) with a secure link to start.
    •      – Click the link from a computer or secure device where you can easily access your personal information.
    •
    • 2. Enter Your Information
    •
    •      – You’ll be asked for:
    •      – Full legal name
    •      – Date of birth
    •      – Home address
    •      – Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number
    •      – DEA number (if applicable)
    •      – State license number(s)
    •
    • Tip: Use your home address, not your practice address—it’s needed for verification.
    •
    • 3. Answer Security Questions
    •
    • You’ll see a few multiple-choice questions based on public records (like your credit report stores), like:
    •
    •      – A past street address
    •      – The make/model of a vehicle you owned
    •      – A past loan or mortgage
    •
    • These must be answered in one sitting—if you get too many wrong, you’ll need to restart or complete a manual process.
    •
    • 4. Set Up Your Security Token
    •
    • This is your two-factor authentication for signing prescriptions:
    •
    •      – You’ll either install a secure app (like Symantec VIP Access) on your phone, or use a small hardware token that displays codes.
    •      – Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your token with your account.
    •
    • 5. Finish and Activate
    •
    •      – Once your token is set up, your account is ready.
    •      – Your EHR administrator will confirm activation, and you can start ePrescribing.
    •      – For controlled substances, you’ll enter your password and your token code when signing.
    •
  • That’s it!
  •
  • If your online verification doesn’t go through, DrFirst will provide simple instructions for a backup verification process (which might involve faxing or uploading a document).
